Final advice
Sydney Dragway, Saturday 27th September, 2014
There is not long to go to the Pioneer-Legends Awards and Reunion at Sydney Dragway. Please find enclosed some last minute additions to the event and some advice which may prove helpful to you.
The schedule for the event is also up on the ANFA site at 2014 Pioneer-Legends Awards schedule
or you can log onto Sydney Dragways website and click the Events tab (the link is listed below again).
This is a FREE admission event. People have asked about buying tickets, but there is NO gate price and even a FREE BBQ at 5pm. If you need a beverage or 'track food', then the canteen directly opposite the marquee is open from 12.30pm.
A 'Racers Auction' will also be held during the Pioneers Presentations, and for a condensed list of products being offered, the ANFA website will have the items posted from Monday morning 23rd September. You can get there by clicking on this link: 2014 ANFA Pioneers and Legends Awards ‘Racers Auction’ Items
.
An Official Recipient Poster has been created by John Baremans and 250 only have been printed. The A3 sized poster features all 17 Pioneer and Legends recipients in various action shots and reflects the mood of those days. These are FREE on the day, first come first served.
Two designs of 'Garage Signs' have been manufactured for the event. The first is on a black background and has the official ANFA logo printed in white. The other is the actual Event Poster which has been reproduced onto an 'aged' tin sign. There is only 20 of each of these signs available.
There is also 40 black stubby holders with the Pioneer and Legends logo printed to keep your drink cool.
60 black polos with white cotton embroidery are available, 50 male sizes and 10 ladies sizes. There will only ever be 60 of these made, and they feature the Pioneer-Legends name, ANFA logo, Sydney Dragway text with the Rocket and Aeroflow logos plus the ANFA web site. Very good quality polo shirts.
For the first time, a Ladies ONLY Lounge has been created in Suite #5 of the Control Tower. This will operate from Noon to 2.30pm and is a quiet place for the ladies to escape the BS that normally happens pre-event or to escape from the band. Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available, as well as a selection of magazines and private Ladies Toilets. All ladies are encouraged to use this facility with girlfriends or family members. There will be a hostess in the Suite to welcome you and make your initial tea or coffee's. As you walk toward the tower from the pit area, take the only sets of stairs to the right and go to the top floor. The lift will also be available which is accessed through the ground floor entrance door to the lower left of the building. Take the lift to the top floor and follow the chatter.
It would be very helpful for a lot of us to recognise our fellow racers, but as age has been kind to some and not so kind to others, you are encouraged to have an official name tag made for you pre-event and available on the day from Noon at a table set up at the front of the marquee near the stage area. These tags have proven to be a collector item as well over the years, so if you desire an Official Name tag, at no cost, please send your name and whoever else is travelling with you to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
There are some Facebook sites containing dialogue and photos of the event, as well as a lot of history on the sport. These can be accessed by clicking:
Plus the actual ANFA site, where Press Releases and the like get posted when created: http://anfa.com.au/
The track caterer is now able to sell alcohol
at the event, so you are encouraged to NOT BYO and purchase your needs at the track for ease of purchase and they will be cold.
The Stainless Steel plaques have already been affixed to the wall in the Staging Area behind the tower. All the Pioneer and Legends Recipients are on these plaques which are permanently affixed.
Historic or just W-I-L-D cars in attendance.
Georgette Bros 'Outrage' Topolino Altered, Satisfaction 'Gas' Cortina, Preen Family 'Banshee' fuel car, Rick Cartisanos 'Gold Digger', the Blake Family's gorgeous F.E.D., Warren and Freddie Armour's restored 6 cylinder dragster, Longfield family Nitro F.E.D., John Cornish's 'Valkyrie' Ford F.E.D. from 'w-a-y back', Dave Armstrong 'Sandman' Nitro F.E.D., Col Walls 'Brutal' altered, Jamie Robertson's 'Mr Manic' altered, Shane Corr '63 Nova and FJ 'Hump This' plus Michael 'Waterboy' McKenna '70 Nova 'Mac Attack'.
